Day 17 No Tractor Snacks

We left the Sastrugi National Park yesterday and have entered the zone we call the Swamp. It's amazing how quickly the terrain can change from windswept ice hard snow drifts to knee-deep fluff. You know instantly if you wander off the trail. If you drop a track off the trail the softer snow will suck you out into no man's land.

You're lucky if you can coax your tractor back onto the trail but it's more likely you'll sink your tractor up to the belly pan and need a pull-out. Two tractors did just that.
I had hopes that since Spot 1 just compacted this section that we may be able to increase speeds and cruise through. Mother Nature had other plans. She thought that last night would be perfect for a good snowfall. It didn't take much to drift over the trail. We struggled to maintain 6.3mph and all hopes of Sunday Brunch were crushed. We should make it for supper.

Everyone is getting excited to reach the Pole. The first timers are excited to see the station and stand at the Pole. The returners are more interested in a hot shower, laundry and a day off. Personally, I'm excited for a real toilet and a Shower Beer. I'm sure I'm not the only one looking forward to a cold one. We'll be talking about making good decisions before the crew is released upon the station.
Kevin Made Buttered Chicken for Supper with Basmati Rice and Italian Blend Mixed Vegetables. Last week Kevin had decided he did believe in dessert. This week I guess he's questioning his beliefs. Justin stepped in and served up some Tin Roof Ice Cream to the crew.

I don't have any new pictures from today so you get a couple from earlier in the trip. "You get what you get and you give no lip." ~ Zoe
